Meet one of the authors of “Celebrating Romance 2”: Sunshine Morrison

We love good food, good wine, good times and fun travel, so we’re delighted to introduce you to another of our contest winners, Sunshine Morrison. That’s because her winning short story — included in the contest anthology book Celebrating Romance 2 — includes all the above.

Sunshine  was born in Los Angeles, CA, but grew up in Prosser, a small farming town in Washington State. She currently lives in Portland, OR, with her husband, Rob, an award-winning journalist, and one young son.

She has a B.A. from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA; and an M.B.A. from Portland State University in Portland, OR.  She currently works at Radiance Communications, a PR firm she founded in 2006. She began her career in a high-tech industry in Seattle. “After living through the Dotcom boom (then bust), I learned that I preferred hard cider to hard drives. I switched to food and consumer products marketing.”

She says of entering the YourNovel.com writing contest: “I thought it was a great excuse to share one of my favorite places – Oregon wine country – and to pursue a new creative outlet.”

Her husband encouraged her to give it a try, and her mother watched their rambunctious two-year-old son so she would have the time to exercise her creative muscles.

“The Grape Escape: Romance in Wine Country,” Sunshine’s winning story, offers the perfect recipe for romance. “It features a dollop of adventure, a dash of mystery and a generous serving of sizzle,” she promises.

She did find writing in the personalized story format challenging. “I was constantly self-editing to try and make the plot work for the widest possible audience, and the short story format was tough.”

She has wanted to be an author since the fifth grade “when I started writing zany stories starring my best friends.”

Hey, I’d like to read a few of those.
